Freelance Journalist and author of the blog “In the Red Zone” Steven Vincent has been killed by Islamic militants, a senior British official said Wednesday.

There is some suggestion that Vincent may have been targeted by Iraqi police, with a recent posting on his blog accusing police in the southern city of Basra of being infiltrated by Shiite militiamen, although NY Newsday reports British official stating that Iraqi police were not involved in Steven Vincent’s death but acknowledged that the journalist’s articles criticizing the local force had made him unpopular
