I'm not sure I would agree that this gives the conclusion that 468x60 banners are dead. First, this is one data point for one vertical (Entertainment Industry/ Music Albums Segment, Week ending September 25, 2005 US, Home and Work). Looking at longer term data over more sites , (also from Nielsen//NetRatings AdRelevance) 468x60 banners are the 3rd or 4th most popular format.

But a point that is even more important is that the data they use for these reports is from the top few hundred sites taken as a universe, and the top 20 in one segment for this one report. In fact, one site covers almost half of the impressions for this survey, and the top five sites account for 75% of these impressions.

What you need to look at is how well these sites represent your own universe of sites. Why compare Blogs to entertainment and music sites? And why compare your sites to the top tier of sites? Maybe small sites are old fashioned, but the 468x60 is still very popular across a large segment of the internet universe.

As for this site, a 468x60 would fit the layout very well. The text of your post is 470 pixels wide, which would make for a very simple fit for 468x60 elements anywhere in the column. You could have one between paragraphs, between the body and comments, or after the comments on this page and it would look great.one between the body and comments, or after the comments and

MySchizoBuddy,

Create a channel for each ad size you'll then be able to tell how each of them performs.

How do u guys figure out which one is performing the best. Google doesn't tell you that. It has channels. But it only allows different pages as channels.

I'm confused.

Hi Ducan,

Excellent info -- thanks for providing this.

Interesting about the 468x60 -- I actually have advertisers request that size and it fits in better with my site than the leaderboard. Also, Google Ads offer a graphical banner of that size, which improves the payout rate because fo CPM. But now I will need to look at some of the other sizes and styles, based on this information.

Thanks again,
Antia

So far, after several experiments, the square and the google link units works for me. I am still optimizing my chitika though.

Leaderboard is the best performing for me too. But I just removed it recently and replace with half-banner.
