Mena Trott implodes on stage at Les Blogs: calls participant an Asshole after lecturing audience about the importance of civility

December 7, 2005 | By Duncan | Filed Under News

I just couldn’t have written this script better myself. Mena Trott has lost the plot again, this time in France during the Les Blogs conference (which was organised by SixApart), interrupting her speech to single out a blogger who had dared criticise her speech as part of a back channel discussion on it, and called him an Asshole and also dropped the F word….get this….during a speech in which she was imploring people to be more civil to each other.

The victim of Mena’s breakdown, Ben Metcalfe comes to his own defence on his blog here, and writes that they made up afterwards, but in a room full of business people, probably investors as well, Mena’s totally lost the plot.

Now I know the SixApart fan club (including Blogebrity) will come to poor little Mena’s defence, but seriously: this is extremely bad PR for SixApart and would have made her look like a joke amongst her peers at the conference, particular given her “patronising” speech (as Metcalfe refers to it) on civility.

Like meatloaf through a straw, these are the days of SixApart.

Hahahah ohh man that’s hilarious. Some of my BusinessLogs posts have been linked to from her blog cause I pissed her off, so no skin off my back on this one ;)

Thanks for breaking this man, I wouldn’t have heard about it otherwise.

You conveniently failed to mention that Ben instigated this incident by calling Mena’s speech, “bullshit”.

The phrase you use twice in this post, “lost the plot” is that an Australian idiom?

Does anyone have the audio of this hilarious story?
