WordPress guru Matt Mullenweg has announced the launch of new company Automattic, the holding company for projects such as WordPress.com, bbPress and Askimet (the payware WP blog spam plugin).

Silicon Beat reports that the launch is to coincide with the release of WordPress 2.0.

On the WordPress blog Matt has also officially announced an agreement with Yahoo that will see Yahoo offer WP 2.0 blogs as an option next to SixApart’s MovableType blogware to customers, along with a free license for Askimet.

Congrats to Matt.
