Well that’s great. I’m guessing that they are planning on being all inclusive and they’ll try to reap the rewards of the code demand. Problem is with limited resources for the community, people won’t want to get involved or stay. I hope this is just a scare and people stay and we don’t get shut down.

I wonder if this has more to do with the use of the MySpace name or the actual supporting of MySpace. Not that I agree with their motives, but I can see someone locking down their brand image.

If I had any thoughts of joining MySpace, they are pretty much disipating fast. I am sure other services over time would be able to pick up any exodus that Newscorp inspires, and it does seem that Newscorp is bent on alienating people.

If this is accurate, this is very short sighted of News Corporation. There are thousands of sites that feed off of traffic and contribute traffic back. The smart thing would be for myspace to add the capabilities that these sites offer. (They could program this stuff in days). But, they certainly shouldn’t be shutting them down. That’s like google shutting down meta-search sites or a blog network shutting down an aggregator.

Myspace is an ecosystem which expands way beyond its site, where a lot of people rely on it to generate income directly through online advertising and for exposure for their acts and businesses. That’s vital to myspace’s existance.
