Rumor Alert: Is Google Considering Facebook?

Filed as General on October 12, 2006 2:55 pm

This would probably be filed under the “probably never but definately possible,” but it seems that a rumor is floating around the blogosphere (as well as a media source) that Google may purchase Facebook.

(Thread Watch) GOOG is looking at Facebook at a 2.3bil price. This could be a total joke on their part, but the source is solid.

Google already owns several social networks, ranging from its never ending beta Orkut, Google Video, to its recent acquisition, You Tube.

But with their rival Yahoo! drowning in talks over Facebook, would it make much sense for Google to pick up yet another social network, especially for over $2 billion?

It would be an interesting choice — but it looks like Google wants to be a media company now with the purchase of YouTube.

Do social networks really fit into this?
