1&1 Internet, a UK Internet hosting company, has released figures suggesting that British small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are turning to DIY-style online marketing techniques, including blogging, RSS, and search engine marketing.
Considering just 1&1’s business customers, over 1,300 new business blogs have been created each month since December 2006.
1&1 also released a free RSS Creator tool, and since then over 700 new small business users created RSS feeds for communication every month, although I would have thought this should come as standard with their blogging software.
Andreas Gauger, CEO 1&1 Internet said, “The figures are pleasing in that they indicate that British SMEs are learning that business blogging and DIY web marketing methods can pay real dividends. 1&1 will push hard to deliver tools that enable the smaller website owner to remain competitive”.
Presumably this trend is being reflected across the UK, although what isn’t clear is how many of those blogs are still active, and how many are bringing companies closer to their customers, rather than simply being another outlet for impersonal corporate speak.
