Blogoxide: I have to agree with that overall. I think we can nip some cases in the bud, but you're right that vigilance and a promise to fight is the most important thing of all.

Well said...

Nothing left for me to say as the article itself is a comprehensive one. What I'd like to add is that we can fight with palgiarism, but can't nip it in the bud, but promising to our selves to combat with it can make a difference!

Lorelle:

I can't add much to that other than to say thank you!

Letters:

Sadly, I wrote this first. I'd used Copyscape in the past with decent results, albeit not perfect, but things seem to have gotten worse in the last few months. The recommendation in this article was definitely ill-advised. Right now the only effective alternative is iPlagiarismCheck.

I'll be hoping for a new service to come along soon, we need competition in this field!

Jonathan,

Did you write this a while ago before posting on your blog about how Copyscape is ineffective, even as with premium services? I just left a comment on plagiarism today agreeing with you!

I totally agree that we have to stop plagiarism before it starts. And it begins with education. Thank you for being the leader in the field educating all of us on what is right, and not right, when it comes to protecting our works online.

I am still stunned when I hear from so many people who think that copying content and giving a link is a compliment, and "good enough". They seem to miss the fact that a link with a small quote or reference is "good enough", in fact plenty!

We are a world of creative folks, so I say let creativity reign on the web and kill off lazy, greedy copy cats! I raise my copyright protection sword to you, my friend. Let's keep fighting the good fight.
