Great, great, great list of suggestions! I want to print this list out and keep it handy when blogging becomes challenging.

If you don't enjoy it, what's the point?

Lorelle, thanks for all these suggestions.

I'd second the comment on the value of reviewing your blogging purpose - I've recently overhauled my blog, challenging myself on what I've been writing (and why) and working out - specifically - what my purpose is with the blog. I've now got that set out on the sidebar as a reminder to myself as well as readers what I'm doing this for. It's been a huge boost to my energy and motivation and I believe my writing has been much more powerful as a consequence.

It's the most amazing thing. When you have a road map, you tend to drive the right roads. Trying to drive by memory means taking the wrong term occasionally. :D

I really like the point you make about a blog's purpose. Thinking back on my blogging experience it seems that from time to time it is a bit of a slog identifying topics to write about or just getting off my butt to make changes to formats, ads, etc. I can see how simply thinking about my blog's purpose would help me focus and provide value to my readers.
