Google unveils new Web Application Engine
April 7, 2008 | By Matt Craven | Filed Under Features
Google has unveiled a new web application engine that allows you to run your web applications on Google’s scalable architecture.
According to Michael Arrington over at TechCrunch, the new Google App Engine will offer “a full-stack, hosted, automatically scalable web application platform consisting of Python application servers, BigTable database access, and GFS data store services”.
The announcement was live broadcast by Robert Scoble via Qik.
The new web app engine puts Google directly in competition with Amazon’s burgeoning Web Services division - which is used by many online startups for cheap storage and services.
Additional coverage available via TechMeme, VentureBeat, CenterNetworks, and CNET.
