Rosanne Cash to John McCain: Back Off!

Repost This

Rosanne Cash, the daughter of country musician Johnny Cash, uses her blog to tell John McCain to back off on using her fathers name to bolster the Republican presidential campaign:

It is unfair and presumptuous to use him to bolster any platform. I would ask that my father not be co-opted in this election for either side, since he is clearly not here to defend or state his own allegiance.

Naturally, this got quite some coverage in the press. On a slightly different note, I recommend getting the later albums by Johnny Cash in particular, his dark and then-wavering voice is really powerful.

RSS subscriber here, but I don’t ever comment. Just figured I’d say that Rosanne Cash’s statement wasn’t aimed at John McCain, but rather another country music performer, John Rich. Rich is a McCain supporter and attempted to claim Johnny Cash would have been, too. In that regard, I think your article is a little misleading in that Rosanne’s statement doesn’t mention McCain anywhere. Anyways, keep up the good work and check out my site if you’re interested in country music.

I think you need to review the article. Rosanne Cash never did not use John McCains name. John McCain did not use Johnny Cash’s name. John Rich mentioned Johnny Cash at a rally for John McCain.

What would people like John McCain to do in this case? Should he pay attention to every single word that everyone says at all of his events and have a committee standing by to decide whether or not he should chastise someone or “disavow” someone for saying things like “Johnny Cash would have been a McCain supporter”?

Your article and the rest of the media articles I have seen on this are very poorly written and in the end push John Riches assumption in the opposite direction. This entire series of articles and your blog post now makes things look like Johnny Cash would be an Obama supporter.. or at the very least not a McCain supporter.

Last of all, seriously, why was this even posted here. Did these 4 sentences really fit into your content scheme that well?

Apparently my brain isn’t working this early in the morning. I totally should have proofread that comment before I posted it.

I would feel the same way if someone used one of my family member’s names without permission. But, the most interesting thing I learned from reading this is that Rosanne’s website has an Alexa ranking of almost 1.5 million and yet a PR6. Surely she has more fans than that. With that Alexa I’d guess she gets less than a hundred uniques a day.
