Blogs Not Running Ads: 46%

Filed as News on October 1, 2008 1:54 am

This is somewhat surprising. Technorati’s State of the Blogosphere 2008 report states that a whopping 46% of the blogs are not running ads at all. As in no Adsense, affiliate programs, or anything. That number surprises me, I would’ve thought it to be lower, but then again it might still be a bit tricky to add advertisements to a lot of blog platforms.

I’m also comforted by the fact that 24% says that they don’t want to clutter their blog with ads, while another 24% just aren’t interested in making money with their blog. 21% are very realistic, they say they don’t have enough visitors to make it worthwhile. Refreshing. Another comforting number is the fact that only 6% of the blogs use paid postings to earn their ad dollars.

considering weblogs evolved from personal websites, i’m actually surprised by how high the percentage running ads really is.

I too hate ads on blogs. I especially hate blogs hosted on free sites that have ads, or even worse, donation buttons. They’re tacky.

I guess it depends on why you are blogging. I blog for me so feel I’d be selling out if I put ads on my blog. I just have Entrecard … it’s been there for a couple weeks and I’m still on the fence about it. For me, it’s providing me with new blogs to check out.

I blog to help attract attention to my services, so no other ads are on there. I used to have Adsense on there but one of my colleagues pointed out that all I was doing was advertising other SEO companies.
