Happy Monday, folks! First, I’d like to kick things off with a blog post that generated a lot of discussion this week. Designer and developer Mike T. wrote about the many things that frustrate him with the current state of MT. Whether you agree with him or not, he brings up some important points, and generates some interesting conversations in the comments.
For another critical look at MT, check out Ken Edwards’ first impressions of Motion. Ken discusses some of the pros and cons of upgrading to a Motion-style site.
While many people are perfectly happy with MT’s entry form, others are more comfortable with one of the many desktop blogging applications. I’ve personally recommended Windows Live Writer to a number of people I knew would be happier with a more Word-like interface. Over at Tildemark, there’s a tutorial on setting up Windows Live Writer with MT. This is a good resource if you’re trying Live Writer for the first time.
Finally, a couple of plugins. Six Apart Services has released one of their in-house tools as an open source plugin. Bob the Rebuilder provides continuous republishing of blogs on a scheduled basis via the run-periodic-tasks tool. This can be useful for things like Action Streams that may be updating, but not triggering a rebuild.
Also, Rob Kenny released version 2.0 of his HashTag plugin. The new version of this Twitter-posting plugin adds the option to, “…treat entry and page tags as HashTags.” Thanks, Rob!.
What have you done with Movable Type lately? Let us know in the comments.
