Retrieve Lost Blog Comments

lazarusEver type something and then lose it? It happened to me yesterday. I was three-quarters of the way through leaving a lengthy blog comment when I stretched my legs out too far, and accidentally kicked the computer plug out of the socket.

After the machine rebooted I had no desire to re-write the comment. Let’s face it…very few people leave comments once – let alone twice. This loss of data sent me in to a Googling tizzy. I knew there had to be a better way. And there is.

Meet Lazarus, the little Firefox add-on that can save you from one of those “oh $*#@” moments.

As you type, Lazarus records your keystrokes and encrypts them – making them securely retrievable in case the power goes out, the server crashes or you kick a plug. The program is designed to capture only information that is inputted into data fields.

A small icon in the Firefox system tray allows you to open a pane where you can search for content you have previously entered into a form.

A simple left click will disable Lazarus if you do not want your keystrokes recorded from a specific site.

I’ve been burned one too many times, and thanks to Lazarus, it’s not going to happen again!

Verdict: 4/5

Thanks for posting about Lazarus! I too felt the pain one too many times, but when I went into a googling tizzy, believing there had to be a better way, there simply wasn’t – so we wrote Lazarus.

I guess the only real question we have is, what would make Lazarus 5/5 rather than 4/5 in your eyes? Our reviews on addons.mozilla.org appear to be a pretty consistent 5 stars, more so than just about any other add-on in there. This makes us happy. :-)
