Frankly, I really don’t dig why anyone would actually pay for an iPhone app that can be had for free through another app. Take the case of Tweetie iPhone which has just released its version 2.1 (iTunes Link). While the newest version of this iPhone app is sprinkled with new features such as retweet, list and geolocation, it is still being offered as a paid app. The thing is, there are other Twitter iPhone which won’t cost you a dime to have on your iPhone. Are these features worthy of the price you have to pay to get the app?Well, maybe for some Twitter users who are very active Twitter users that they post most of their tweets via their mobile phones – these features are worthy enough. But for the majority of casual Twitter users, including me having these features may not be necessary at all. Hence, we refuse to pay for a Twitter iPhone app.
If you don’t mind paying for the Twitter iPhone app, then Tweetie 2.1 with its new features is definitely for you. Or if you are already a Tweetie user, you might want to get the new version of the iPhone app to use those features. It’s a free upgrade for current users of Tweetie 2.0.
Of course aside from retweet, lists and geolocation features, you’d also get tons of other new features as well as bug fixes for problems in Tweetie version 2.0.
With that said, I’m still having second thoughts whether I should get Tweetie 2.1 or be contented with my current iPhone Twitter Client – Tweetdeck.
How about you? What Twitter client do you use on your iPhone? Will you be willing to spend for a Twitter client such as Tweetie 2.1?

@Arnold While other clients may have the same features for a lesser price, what you get with Tweetie is a robust, fast, and stable application, which isn’t always the case with others (especially TweetDeck). Its speed is well worth the price if you are a power Tweeter like myself (http://twitter.com/spamboy). Isn’t this also the first client to implement lists?

The difference between premium and free Twitter apps is night and day (TweetDeck is the exception here).
However Tweetie has the best UI out of Twitter apps out there, although it lacks Push Notification (which is sad).
IMHO Echofon is the best thus far (due to it’s smart Push Notification), although Twittelator Pro is cool too.

@ Spamboy, @Darnell – You’ve actually convinced me to download Tweetie 2.1 guys. Will see how it fares up with long time iPhone Twitter client – TweetDeck.

Tweetie is a great short and simple Iphone app – very clean and fast. Or it was. The deal breaker for me is the implementation of the BETA Twitter RT method. Which entirely screws up the way I do (did) RT’s. At this point, I’ll be removing the app.

I still have not updated to Tweetie 2. I don’t see why I should, I love the simplicity of Twitter and Tweetie (1).
Personally I am totally not interested in telling everyone where I am and that there’s no one at home, no one to guard all the tools, gizmos and IT equipment, or follow several lists while on the road, away from the computer enjoying a real social life (not that I ever would do the latter).

Don’t like the new features. RTs are cut off if they’re too long. Quote Tweet is weird. Don’t like the arrows and original posters showing up as RTs. Bring back the old one. Boo.

Cool app but once again, another app I could live without, especially since you have to pay to use it. Twitter already has too many apps for their website I feel like they would be better off if they made their website an exclusive app and made companies that make apps for their website pay them royalties or something.
