Blogger Improves Photo Uploading (Catches Up To WordPress)

It looks like the boys and girls at Google have just enabled multiple photo uploading for Blogger fans via flash, as well as the ability to pull images from their multimedia gallery on Picasa.

(Blogger In Draft Blog) We recently updated the photo uploading interface in Blogger in Draft’s post editor with a few new features:

Multiple photo upload. If you have Flash installed, you can select multiple photos at a time in the file picker, and all of them will get uploaded at once.

Picasa Web Albums integration. You can now select from any of the images in your Picasa Web photo albums and insert them into your posts.

The ability to post images from your Picasa gallery is a feature long overdue, although it does help make blogger more competitive against rivals like WordPress.com and Typepad.

This latest move should help compliment Blogger’s launch of blog themes and pages, which should make the platform more appealing for serious bloggers.

This feature is currently only available upon Blogger in Draft (which is Google’s eternal beta for Blogger which users can access by visiting draft.blogger.com in their browser.

My hueristic usability evaluation of Blogger now posted at http://tvustudent.wordpress.com/2010/05/17/bloggerheuristicusabilityevaluation/

My main conclusions from this evaluation:

Blogger is generally very usable and useful to users with very good usability.

    ■4.2 average score.
■One third of the areas of Blogger’s usability scored 4.
■5 out of 12 areas of Blogger’s usability scored 5 – exemplar usability: design a simple state space; visible system status; matches language with target user group needs; facilitates learning and effective error management was the most successful element of Blogger.
■Only 3 areas of Blogger’s interface showed minor concern about usability – giving users control and freedom, help, and navigation.
■No main areas with significant issues, but the most significant were the poor utility of linking functionality and poor utility and features for managing blog performance and stats.
■No areas with serious usability flaws or catastrophes.
■The ‘Area for Improvement’ highlighted within this evaluation indicate how this could be improved and are recommendations for further redesign.

“Multiple photo upload. If you have Flash installed, you can select multiple photos at a time in the file picker, and all of them will get uploaded at once.”

How is this achieved on a Mac? When I am in the file picker, I’ve attempt to select multiple photos using shift+left click, command+left click, and even control+left clip, but it still only highlights one photo. This would be a big help if you could tell me how.
