iPad Blogging Now Possible (Thanks To WordPress And BlogPress)

Filed as News on April 2, 2010 1:50 pm

With the iPad being released to the masses tomorrow, it looks like WordPress and BlogPress have updated their respective apps in order to make them iPad compatible.

Since very few people (let alone bloggers) have an iPad, WordPress was able to release a statement, as well as a few iPad screen shots (like the one above).

(WordPress iPhone Blog) So what’s new for the iPad? In order to ensure that using WordPress on your iPad would be a great experience from day one, we decided not to add any new features. Nada. This release is all about taking advantage of a huge 9.7″ touchscreen. Writing and editing posts is far easier than before. Skimming through your comments and moderating them is far faster than before. And using the app is simply more beautiful than before.

Making the iPhone app compatible with the iPad should help increase WordPress’s popularity on the mobile front, as the blogging company already has created mobile apps for Blackberry smartphones, as well as Android.

BlogPress (which supports WordPress, MovableType and Blogger) has also optimized their iPhone app for the iPad, although they have not released an official statement online (they did however mention it being iPad friendly in the app store).

Despite the limitations of blogging on the iPad (at least on the WordPress iPad app), bloggers may prefer to write posts upon Apple’s latest device due to the larger screen which makes the iPad the perfect tool when it comes to researching topics.

Other blogging companies have yet to announce any major plans to adapt their iPhone apps (in order to become iPad friendly), although we will probably see more join in over the next few weeks.

    Given the size of the screen, why not just use the Safari browser and log into your blog? My iPad comes Saturday. It’s one of the first things I’ll be trying.

    Blogging for the iPad has sold me completely.

    Plus the iPad getting its own specifically tailored apps, paricularly for photo editing etc has me sold.

    Glad to see how Apple and major blogging applications try to make new devices blogger-friendly, so to speak. I wonder how bloggers would react to these updates.

    With the Ipad coming out soon, it should be interesting to see the push and pull of development for the Ipad and its competitors.

    @Jeff Turner

    True, but what if you have a Wi-Fi Ipad and are offline? Having a blogging app that allows you to write your posts offline, and have them go online when you hit a Wifi Connection is great as far as I’m concerned. Especially if it has all the functionality of blogging online except for the actual act of posting :).

    It’s definitely so easy to manage WordPress blogs from iPad using this application. WordPress bloggers can connect to their WordPress blog from the iPad and edit/approve comments, create posts and create pages. iPad popularity is going to go up with such useful iPad apps.

    The WordPress app is close to useless. You can only edit in HTML, not WYSIWYG. You can’t edit or add links. I could go on but that basically killed it for me. I’m sure it’ll improve with time but at the moment editing a WordPress blog on the iPad isn’t possible unless you’re doing extremely basic posts.

    Hey Charl,

    You should try BlogPress then. It is not only iPad ready, but includes formatting. :-)
