Twitter wants to show their users how the microblogging platform has helped others and for that purpose they have launched Twitter Tales a new offering that is meant to inspire and motivate others to use Twitter in fun, effective and interesting ways.
Twitter’s own communications staffer Carolyn Penner said on the company’s official blog that Twitter Tales is meant to display:
“a growing set of articles that highlights creative individuals and businesses from all corners of the world that help make Twitter awesome.”
If you have a story to share, you can send it to tales@twitter.com and you could be one of the showcases stories.
The pool of accepted stories so far vary greatly in their scope; @caltrain was one of the first and they appear to be a community account for San Francisco commuters, @thebloggess, a popular digital humor writer and @natashabadhwa a filmmaker in New Delhi.
We reported a little while back that YouTube was offering their own “stories” section, almost a way to stroke their own egos, but ultimately these stories are a great way to showcase the proper way to use social networking.

Funny thing is we did that for the anniversary of my blog about one year ago — http://www.conversationagent.com/2009/11/twittertales-the-ebook.html — same concept, same name. It will be interesting to see if they credit the idea, won’t it?

Good luck getting credit Valeria. Twitter is actually pretty good with giving Kudos if they took the idea from somewhere else or received information from others, just look at the kudos going out to developers who discover security flaws in their system.
Yeah GoingLikeSixty, these type of stories are popular on the internet, it allows companies to give viable use examples without having to come up with them on their own, while keeping top users involved in their platforms…very smart move by the top websites.

Good luck indeed, James. The story was brought to my attention by someone who had participated in the original collection. I tweeted the news to Ev, Biz, and to Mashable that published a similar write up to the one you did. So far, no response nor acknowledgment. Which doesn’t sound very social, does it?

Surprising, like I said, Twitter usually gives “Shout outs” when users provide them with anything that sounds like a good idea. Although everyone has been doing this lately, Google Stories are happening, YouTube did the same…..
Remember when Testimonials were a big deal? Really these “Stories” are just bigger testimonials with a back story…..I think MySpace should do it, they would get a million stories about issues with the site ;)
