iPhone 5 Rumors Roundup: Possible Features For Apple’s Next Generation

iPhone 5 MockupApple is expected to officially announce the iPhone 5 in September or October of this year and on the heels of that announcement we have compiled a list of possible iPhone 5 features as rumored from various online sources. While we still don’t know what the iPhone 5 price will be, these rumors give us a good idea of some major possibilities for the devices hardware and software future.

New Design

Apple is expected to go bezel-free with the release of the iPhone 5, returning to a design that’s closer to the iPhone 3G than the iPhone 4. According to some reports the curved back can help eliminate “Death Grip” while a tapered design is said to be in the work that would create a thinner bottom than top, allowing the phone to sit on an angle while placed on a flat surface.

Another rumor says the device will feature a metallic back instead of the devices signature black and white options we’ve seen in the past, however a curved glass design could also be used as Apple is rumored to have recently purchased 300 glass cutting machines.

Display

One of the biggest rumors regarding the iPhone 5 display has been the fact that it could become an “edge-to-edge” creation that would remove the bezel found on current devices, while the Retina Display will still be used but will offer higher resolution, possibly with higher dpi levels on a larger screen.

Camera Worth Taking Pictures With

Apple is rumored to be purchasing components for a dual-LED flash setup, while rumors point to an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with a 5-megapixel front-facing camera, which if true would place the iPhone 5 at the top of Smartphone camera lovers lists.

Better Connectivity Including NFC

NFC technology is all the rave right now and Apple is expected to roll out the mobile payment system on their next generation iPhone. With NFC customers will be able to pay for purchases using their phones as thousands of merchants around the United States. Another rumor says Apple will bypass NFC by rolling out Bluetooth 4.0 which can split Bluetooth into two communication subsets (Bluetooth high-speed and Bluetooth low energy).

One thing the iPhone 5 will not have is LTE (4G) technology since it would require changing the devices components too much at this time according to Apple’s own Tim Cook.

Faster Processor

The iPhone 5 is expected to pick up the A5 processor used in iPad 2 devices, this rumor is about as close to any truth we’ve heard to date and is a no-brainer for the company as it will allow their devices processing strength to increase by leaps and bounds, providing a more powerful device for gaming and app hungry users.

More Carrier Support

This rumor was all but confirmed byVerizon’s Chief Financial Officer Francis Shammo who announced at the Reuters Tech Summit that the Apple iPhone 5 will not be released in separate GSM and CDMA version but would instead be a “world phone” which would seem to signal that T-Mobile, Sprint and other carriers in the United States would gain access to the Smartphone.

Apple device rumors have been typically close to the truth during the last several device releases and with many of the rumors above taken from parts suppliers anonymous tips there’s a good chance that at least a few of these rumors will be true, now all we need is Apple iPhone 5 pricing and a release date to satisfy our appetites for a little while longer.
