Instagram Debuts New Filter Type, Announces Foursquare Integration

Instagram New Filter and Foursquare IntegrationAfter ditching full photo displays (Vcards) from Twitter on Monday the team at Instagram wasted no time in debuting new features of its very own. The world’s largest social photo sharing platform announced updates for both its iOS and Android apps.

Instagram’s new features include integration with Foursquare, improvements to its camera integration standards and a new black-and-white filter.

All location pages for Instagram now feature a Foursquare button which launches the Foursquare app if installed or a website location if the Foursquare app is not featured on the users smartphone. In both cases Foursquare provides information about the venue where the photo was taken.

Also included via the update is a new grid guide that is used when taking or editing photos. Users can also now preview their most recent photos.

Photos also now save in the app and in a separate album on the users iOS or Android smartphone. The new album is simply titledInstagram. read more

Pinterest Page Catches Criminals

Catching criminals often involves endless hours of detective work, reels of security camera footage and sometimes just a bit of plain old luck. A possibly more effective way to catch those same criminals is to use social networking website Pinterest.

The Mercury,a Pottstown, Pennsylvania newspaper, has so far posted 74 pictures to its newspaper Pinterest page and surprisingly the effort has been very effective.

How to Revive Expired Content

Most bloggers don’t like the idea of their content expiring, especially if they publish a lot of it on a consistent basis. The thing is that the more you publish, the less time you have to review your past articles. And sorry to be the one to break this to you, but your content won’t stay evergreen till the end of time.

Well okay, if you publish articles on learning the Latin language then you’re safe, but for any other niche, things change quite fast. And if you’re in web technology, blogging, or making money then your content is like a bottle of freshly squeezed carrot juice in the fridge … so to speak.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that good, quality content has a short lifespan.

Essentially, content is like food. The better it is, the sooner you have to eat it. read more

Twitter Cutting Some Tweets Down To 117 Characters

Twitter Shortener Services Leads to Shorter Tweets AllowedIf you can’t collect your thoughts in 140 characters you might soon find yourself with 23 less. Twitter is planning to cut down URL containing tweets from 118 characters for HTTP links and just 117 for HTTPS containing URLs.

Currently a Tweet can scale to 119 characters when a Twitter URL shortener is used.

On Thursday Twitter announced the movie, noting that it was necessary because of upcoming changes to the Twitter t.co link wrapper. The new revision extends t.co wrapped links from 20 to 22 characters for HTTP URLS and 21 to 23 characters for HTTPS links.

Because Twitter’s shortener service will now use more space Twitter will give up some space from a customers Tweets. read more

Google+ Now Features Communities, Announces 500 Million Users

Google Plus CommunitiesGoogle+ on Thursday announced the launch of a new group feature called Google+ Communities. The new program allows users to create public and private groups that can be centered around a specific topic or brand.

According to GoogleVP Vic Gundotra the new Communities button on the left side of the Google+ menu allows users to form groups or search for groups by category. Once a member of a group users can join events or participate in video-chat Hangouts.

Google+ will also allow users to share Communities through +1 button support on the web.

Google has also announced that it has surpassed 500 million users with 235 million active Google+ customers for Hangouts and +1 button use. Google also claims 135 million Google+ pages users. read more

Quora Adds LinkedIn Sharing, Helps Professionals Boost Their Credibility

Quora Adds LinkedIn SharingQuestion and Answer website Quora now allows users to share answers directly to their Linkedin profiles.

Announced on Wednesday the new integration joined Twitter, Facebook and email sharing buttons that were already available to Quora users.

Quora hopes that by promoting professional answers on LinkedIn more users with experience will show off their knowledge base.

In a company blog post Quora notes:

The knowledge and expertise you share on Quora can now become part of your professional biography and identity.”

Utilizing social networks properly involves catching peoples attention, in order to gain the attention you want originality is a big plus. Unfortunately many users in 2012 used their LinkedIn accounts to echo the same sentiments as other users.

LinkedIn on Tuesday revealed its list of the 10 most-overused buzzwords job hunters used in 2012 to find new jobs. Job hunters apparently feel that being “creative” is a huge plus. Creative was the same term that ruled last years buzzwords list.

Firefox 17 Now Includes Facebook Messaging Sidebar

Firefox 17Mozilla on Monday announced that Firefox 17 now includes a Facebook messaging sidebar for easier communication with a users Facebook friends list.

The opt-in feature allows users to quickly accessFacebook Messenger from any page on the web. Users can also see their Facebook notifications whenever using the browser and they are given the option to hide the sidebar when not in use.

In a public statement regarding the release of Firefox 17’s new feature Mozilla states:
