When Bloggers Need a Break From Blogging

Blogging is easy, so many people say. But anyone who actually blogs to reach their goals and succeed knows that blogging can be a daunting task at times. While the definition of goals and success may differ from blogger to blogger, at the end of the day, one needs virtual elbow grease to get where they want to.

That being said, there are times when bloggers need to take a break from what they do day in and day out. Office workers get the weekend off. They get weeks of paid vacation. Bloggers who work for themselves and/or do freelance work don’t get that luxury – unless they purposefully schedule a break.

Since you’re reading this, I assume that you are a blogger who might be looking to take a break. Now, a break can be anywhere from an hour a day to a weekend, or maybe a week away from home.

One thing is for sure: any kind of break will help you rest, rejuvenate, and refocus. When you go back to your desk (or wherever you normally work), you’ll be in better form.

So what do bloggers do when they need a break from blogging?

There is no one answer to this question, as personal preferences will dictate the activity you engage in, but here are a few ideas. No matter how long your break is, these activities can apply.

  1. Play a video game. With mobile gaming being so big these days, there is no lack of video games to choose from. If you’re the type to play war games and strategize, Clash of Clans or Game of War will suit you well. If you like superheroes, Injustice is the perfect game. Then there’s always tower defense games, video slots games, and word games.
  2. Read a book. I am emphasizing book here, because it may be important for you to spend time away from the screen. While playing video games are fun, you’re still looking at a screen. At the very least, if you read a paper book, your eyes will have a bit of rest.
  3. Spend a weekend at a spa. Or a day. Or even a couple of hours. While the stereotype is that spas are for women, there are actually a lot of men who enjoy some pampering. If you’re a guy, and you’ve never tried going to a spa, trust me – you’re missing out. In fact, I would go as far as to say that a day at the spa might be the best thing to do when you need a break from blogging. Note: Don’t bring your gadgets with you.
  4.  Spend time with your family and friends. Based on personal experience, this is the area where I fail most. I get so engrossed in my work that I tend to only take short breaks – like points 1 and 2. Recently, though, I spent a weekend with my family, and I realized that that is something that every freelancer should prioritize. Aside from the fact that it’s the ‘right’ thing to do, spending time with those who matter to you will really give you a boost.
