How Important Is Your Blogging Topic?

More often than not, when we LOVE something or someone, there is more than one reason why. Take ice cream as an example. Is it the creamy consistency? The sweetness? A specific flavor? Every person you ask is likely to have a different answer.

Now let’s apply the same question to blogging. Here’s what I would like to know…

Which do you love more – the art of blogging or the topic on which you blog?

I write content for several different blogs, each with significantly different subject matter. Some of the topics I enjoy more than others, but over a peaceful summer weekend, it occurred to me that I enjoy the practice of blogging more than the subjects I write about. That’s why for me, blogging about blogging is a natural fit.

Perhaps it was the love of something that got you into the blogging game, but now that passion has been overshadowed by the act of blogging as a whole. Leave a comment below and let us know which you love more – your blog’s topic or blogging itself.

  • Very interesting subject to ponder. I realized that for me it is a combination of both.
There are some specific topics that I am so passionate about that I want to tell as many people as I can about it and a blog seems to be the best way to do that. Then there are some general topics that I want to be able to write about all the different sides and points of view and this is where the art of blogging is where the joy is.

  • It’s a good question. I still don’t readily identify myself as a blogger, but have been pleasantly surprised by how much I’ve enjoyed writing and managing a blog for my organization (Coro Pittsburgh). As of now though, I think I’m going to have to say the topic is what I love most. Having a platform to really explain what is is we do, and how we’re transforming our region, while discussing leadership and the Pittsburgh community has been a blast!

  • Like Kelsey, I still have trouble identifying myself as a blogger because not until fairly recently did I start posting regularly to a blog. I’d have to say though that it is the writing process that I like. I went to school for writing, but then got away from it. It just occurred to me last Friday, that I am finally in a place where most of the work I’m doing is writing…love it!

  • I started blogging because I love to write and share what I’ve learned. I enjoy posting for personal thoughts, movie summaries, application reviews and now, my blog has a niche topic about social media guide — ‘Social @ Blogging Tracker’. It’s part of improving, I guess; after much deliberation, I feel there’s a need to pick a niche and get more in depth with it. Being as a freelance writer, I still enjoy posting for the previously mentioned interests but maybe on other relevant sites. So to me, I love to blog because I love what I’m writing about.

  • I just started blogging to improve my recall of the last half of this year. I decided that I had lost the whole first part of this year and I wanted to stop having that feeling. So now I can write and try to draw attention to issues I am concerned with and things I enjoy – most recently I wrote about which Sunday Funnies were my favorites.

I just found out about The Blog Herald and now I can find even more to love about “blogging”.
