blogging lessons

As a blogger, you want to make the most of your time producing the best possible content for your blog. This means increasing your productivity and getting rid of roadblocks along the way that prevent you from doing your job.

Enter IFTTT.

This web-based service lets you create conditional statements referred to as “recipes” using third-party apps. Using recipes help you cut time in doing certain tasks online. For example, there is a recipe that lets you automatically save all your Instagram photos to your Dropbox. This way, you don’t have spend time manually transfering the images to your Dropbox. Using this trigger, IFTTT will do it for you.

Aside from using these indispensable time-saving recipes, there are specific conditional statements that will help you how to blog the right way. Below are four of them.

1. RSS > Social Media

Promoting your posts on social media is a laborious necessity to increase readership of your blog. Instead of spending time to do these, you can simply create a trigger that lets you automatically share your latest posts using your RSS feed to your preferred social media sites aside from the ones listed above.

Setting this recipe on your IFTTT account will require you to find the RSS feed of your blog. Here’s an easy way to find your blog’s RSS feed courtesy of Aweber.

This way, you can simply focus on what you love doing – writing great content on your blog.

How to do this:

  1. Click on ‘this’ and choose Feed as your trigger channel.
  2. Click New feed item so all your latest posts will be included in the trigger. Click New feed item matches so you can only include the latest posts contain specific keywords you will enter.
  3. Enter the blog’s Feed URL. If you chose New feed item matches, enter keyword or simple phrase.
  4. Click on ‘that’ and choose the social media channel where you want your blog posts to be published.
  5. For Facebook, Facebook Groups, and Facebook Pages, click on Create a link post and enter an optional message along with the post. Keep in mind that the message will appear on all the posts that will be published on Facebook.
  6. For LinkedIn, choose Share a link. From here, you can add an Image URL that will appear along with the post.
  7. For Twitter, choose Post a Tweet.
  8. Once done, create the action.

2. Latest posts on Reddit > Blog

Using Reddit as part of your marketing strategy is a great way to drive more blog traffic and increase your authority in your niche. Part of your strategy using this popular social networking and news website is to post on your subreddit.

  • Thanks for this post, I love IFTTT but haven’t used it with my sites. Using RSS with Social is a great idea! I think you just saved me a couple hours a week!

  • I love Dropbox! It simplified a lot of my online work. I use it in my transcription business to receive audios from clients and it makes things drag and drop easy for them instead of having to wait around on uploads in Basecamp or having to worry about bounced emails with attachments.
