Who Ate All The Pies stopped being updated in September last year, but now Ollie Irish has retaken his role as editor-in-chief, with Anorak handling content production but (at present) with the blog still very clearly branded as Shiny Media’s. Details of the deal aren’t known (and probably won’t be made public) but I’d imagine some sort of revenue sharing and pay-per-post deal is in place to keep both the writers and companies happy. Matt Mullenweg has announced that Automattic will be giving blo.gs, a ping service of yore, a refresh:
Yahoo! is transferring blo.gs to Automattic for safekeeping and further development. I’ve been a long-time fan of the service, and it even inspired the early WordPress feature which reordered your blogroll based on update times.
Classy move on Yahoo’s part, who obviously have no use for it.
Mummy blogging is taking off in a big way in the UK, with an estimated 175,000 new blogs expected to be launched this Mother’s Day (22nd March) and with 55% being written by women.

I have sold my fair share of blogs, although I’m most definitely not among the worst blog hustlers out there. Every time I have indeed decided to part with a blog, or any other website for that matter, I’ve done what I could to find a good buyer. Not all manage to do so, blinded by the hopes and dreams of the buyer, or just by the wad of dollar bills offered. There’s a really nice post on that up on Webmaster Source, which comes down to this advice:
If you ever end up wanting to sell a well-established blog for some reason, think of your readers. Before you just sell to the highest bidder, put up a post asking if any of them would like to buy it. Someone from your community is more likely to keep it going. Shop it around to some blog networks or other bloggers on the same topic, maybe.

As far as I’m concerned, putting together a “100 best blogs” post is potentially very easy (there are hundreds of millions of them) and yet extremely difficult — how do you narrow that list down to just 100 even in one genre?
The Sunday Times is the latest one of the established media to have a go at creating a list of jumping off points. The article is definitely aimed at those for whom reading blogs is not a current pastime — feed readers and blog directories are explained in a side panel.

This is very different from advertising value – as there’s always a dollar price slapped on to a specific ad slot. But media value is different – as it takes into consideration other things such as how the message was communicated.

For most bloggers, email is one of their most important tools. Whether it is a means of receiving feedback beyond the regular comment form, a method of obtaining new clients/advertisers or just a way of getting tips for future posts, most bloggers enjoy being available via email.
The question though is how to do it? Anyone with an email address is acutely aware of the high levels of email spam still being spent out, well after Bill Gates promised the problem would be solved, and don’t seek to invite any more of it or have legitimate mail lost in existing spam filters.
Bloggers that want to invite email communication have a serious challenge trying to open the doors to their readers without inviting a deluge of pharmaceutical and scam emails as well. BBC learned the hard way that Twitter is not always reliable. I doubt they thought so from the start, but the fact that they screwed up their Mumbai terror reporting running rumors floating on Twitter not only looks bad for the publisher, it also hurts the credibility of user generated content online. On Tuesday, BuzzLogic released a report called Harnessing the Power of Blogs which concludes that the blogosphere has more power than online social networks when it comes to shaping consumer buying decisions.
The report analyzes the results of a survey, conducted by JupiterResearch and sponsored by BuzzLogic, that asked 2,210 online consumers in the US about the ways in which different kinds of websites influenced their purchasing choices.
One conclusion of the survey: “Frequent” blog readers – that is, those who read blogs once or more each month – actually depend more on blogs to find other blog content than on any search engine.
Another interesting find: the number of people who read at least one blog a month has quadrupled since 2004. [Read more…]
The 2008 Philippine Blog Awards was concluded Saturday evening with the awarding ceremonies at the Esplanade in Pasay City, Metro Manila. Finalists in the 23 categories were narrowed down from hundreds of nominees, with winners selected by judges from various fields, mostly in the new media industry.
With the aim of recognizing notable Filipino-owned blogs in different niches, the Philippine Blog Awards was launched in 2007 to showcase notable blogs with quality content that engages readers from around the globe. This second year of the event marked the inclusion of network blogs written by Filipinos, blogs written by mainstream media practitioners as well as local corporations that use blogs are effective communication tools.
Two of our folks from Splashpress Media (which also owns the Blog Herald) were also finalists: Sophia Lucero’s Stellify.net was a finalist for Best Blog Design, and this writer for Best Network Blogger.
