The growth of blogging and blogs with their own domain names is being credited as a major part of record internet hostname growth last month.
According to the report from Netcraft, the purchase of domains for branding purposes of blogs, and also blog related advertising were two of the four factors given for the 2.76 million additional domain names created in June. Domain name speculation was also named, and although not directly credited by the report blog-related domain names continue to gain increasing attention on major domain sales sites.
I would also guess that blogging has increased usage of the .net extension. WilWheaton.net making it sheik of course.
