The Crocodile Hunter dominates the blogosphere

Filed as News on September 4, 2006 11:06 pm

I haven’t seen this viral of a story in a long time.

Steve Irwin’s untimely and tragic death at the tail of a stingray yesterday morning has caught on across the blogosphere as far as the eye can see.

The most search term on Technorati right now is Steve Irwin, followed by Crocodile Hunter, and then #4 is Irwin.

Our post early this morning about Irwin’s death already has 17 comments - and I’m expecting to double that tomorrow.

It’s the Top Story on Tailrank and even a day later one of the top stories on Memeorandum.

Technorati shows at least 3500 blog posts containing “Steve Irwin” in the last 24 hours.

Amazing.

Other coverage: Sydney Morning Herald, Herald Sun, BBC, and The New York Times.

    Matt,

It’s amazing isn’t it. It seems to have captured something in many, many people, maybe of their own realization that no one is invincible - we know that, but sometimes we gotta be reminded.

It’s comforting to know all you need to do is be gutted by a Stingray and search volume for your name goes up.

It is unbelievable that he has suddenly gone…Guess it was because we were so use to see him tackle just about everything…Innitially when i use to wath him, I use to think the guy is crazy, then I just continued to be amazed & eventually it became an expectation that Steve would obviously do things like that coz he can…To realize that one of those attempts took his life seems ridiculous…almost as if that was not supposed to happen…As if somehow I could rewind & correct it and play it back again…It is very sad…truely sad.
