Movable Type Monday: Photo Gallery, Google Maps, Template Sets, and More
Happy Monday, folks! We’ve got a few new and updated plugins this week, so let’s start there.
Byrne Reese released a new version of the Photo Gallery plugin. This version includes two new options for the “front door” of your gallery. You can now choose a grid or blog layout, and you can display a featured photo. Byrne also released an updated version of the plugin’s documentation.
SetOffset, written by Shinichi Nozawa, is an enhancement to the Movable Type admin. On the Manage Entries screen, it allows you to “jump” to a specific point in the list of entries, rather than have to page through them to find the one you want.
This next plugin seems particularly interesting. ITEMAN Dynamic Publishing provides dynamic blog publishing through Perl. Written by Atsuhiro Kubo, this would work as a replacement for the PHP-based dynamic publishing built into MT. By using ITEMAN, your existing Perl-only plugins can be used without also doing static publishing. I’m curious how this performs compared to the built-in option. If anyone has tried it, let us know in the comments.
GoogleMap lets you assign a set of coordinates to an entry and display a Google Map with it.
Finally, Jesse Gardner created a screencast that shows how to create a MT theme. Jesse’s instructions are easy to follow, and he provides a good overview of what’s involved in putting a set of templates together as an installable MT theme.
What have you done with MT lately? Let us know in the comments.
