BoingBoing on the Violet Blue Controversy
Remember BoingBoing deleting posts about Violet Blue? Well, the story have hit print media, and BoingBoing have responded with a clarification of their own. Basically, I think they’re doing a nice job handling the situation, although I still think it is dead stupid to delete content like this. Seriously, they had to see this coming… Still, it’s their site, they have the control.
However, I wonder how Violet Blue feels about this portion of BoingBoing’s explanation as to why the posts was deleted:
Violet behaved in a way that made us reconsider whether we wanted to lend her any credibility or associate with her. It’s our blog and so we made an editorial decision, like we do every single day. We didn’t attempt to silence Violet. We unpublished our own work. There’s a big difference between that and censorship.
Is this story dead now?
Kudos to BoingBoing, however, to inviting journalists to participate in a conference call about the situation. Smart move.
