God responds to Calacanis challenge: why bother

A new take on the current A-List debate/ meme that’s flared up this week, primarily due to the BlogHer conference. Blog god Dave Winer has responded to Jason Calacanis’ offer of money for a creation of a new, more inclusive and relavent list of the Top 500 bloggers out there by simply saying “why bother”. Does one dare suggest that Winer doesn’t want to see a new list for issues relating to protecting his current place in blogging nirvana?…I’d never be naughty enough to suggest such a thing. :-)

  • ooooooh Duncan. You sure know how to hint *cough* around and get the old mind working. I for one would love to see an updated list of who’s who and what’s what in the blogosphere lately. “Inclusive” is the operative word in your post. Exclusive is getting kind of bland if you ask me.

  • …In addition to my commetn above… do you think Jason C. is kind of miffed that his blogs are being bumped down because of the way things are currently being tracked??? ;-)

  • I’d rather see the current A-listers completely change their blogrolls to only include NEW bloggers rather than the back-slapping routine we currently have. Surely they should be leading the way when it comes to this?

Actaully, as our blogs get older (i.e. Engadget and Autoblog) they do better and better on a list like Technorati’s. My goal of having a 1-year list (trailing 12 month) rewards the folks who are doing well recently–not the old folks who’ve been around the longest.

I’m all about performance… and the Technorati 100 list is all about protecting the old school folks. It’s time for a change.
