Blogger Code of Ethics Petition started

Justin McLachlan has launched a petition calling for support for a “Bloggers Code of Ethics” first posted to Cyberjournalist.net in 2003. At the time of writing there were only 8 signatures, and lots of negative comment on Metafilter. The push seems to be aimed at left-wing sites which McLachlan claims are tabloid and nasty, and he calls on all bloggers who want to be journalists to adopt the code.

The call has gone out before, and will undoubtedly go out again in the future. At the end of the day the only way a code of ethics will gain strong support is with the backing of a Blogging Association. Whilst a number of PR Blogging Associations have popped up, nothing much else is on the radar. None the less, for those who haven’t looked at the subject before, it’s worthy of some short consideration.

Now, I wonder what tabloid headline we can write next! :-)
