Instagram Reaches 100 Million Users Milestone

InstagramInstagram has passed a huge milestone, announcing that it now serves more than 100 million monthly active users.

Announced in a blog post by co-founder Kevin Systrom, the news of the tremendous milestone arrives just 28 months after Instagram launched to much fanfare.

In mid-January Instagram announced that it has reached 90 million monthly active users (MAUs). The 90 million mark was the first time Instagram had ever officially revealed MAU data.

News of the 100 million users milestone and the company’s growth of nearly 10 million users in one month arrives after the company’s announced TOS changes caused an uproar and promises of fleeing the photo-based network.

When Instagram was acquired by Facebook in 2012 the social network had 30 million MAUs and was isolated on the Apple iOS platform. Shortly after purchasing the program Facebook launched an Android version and further integrated Instagram with the Facebook Connect login.

Speaking of his company’s achievement Kevin Systrom said in an Instagram blog post that the platform has helped create “a world more connected and understood through photographs.” Kevin may be right as even some major breaking news stories have arrived thanks to filtered photos from mobile devices.

Are you impressed with Instagram’s ability to reach 100 million monthly active users in just 28 months?
