WTF is WFH?
This probably is not the first time you are seeing the acronym “WFH”, meaning work from home. As you can see, it is a little too close to something else, “wtf”, meaning something entering differently. WFH has become a household term and is well-known for professionals everywhere, especially with work-from-home capabilities expanded tremendously over the years since the pandemic began in 2020.
What does it mean to work from home?
Working from home is not a new concept, but it has become more popular since the pandemic hit and companies had to force everyone to bring their office into their homes. Now, many people find the convenience and comfort of their homes to be the best office. So, what is WFH? It is all about what is best for you, your company, your workflow, and your schedule.
Home office
A WFH office can be tailored to you and your work style. Some like to mimic their actual corporate offices with neutral tones and small hints of personalization, while others like to incorporate their home style into their WFH office. A recent WFH staple is the standing adjustable desk with a walk pad underneath. Health initiatives have brought the walking pad to life in an effort to be more active throughout the day. It is not a standard treadmill, but rather it is a treadmill band on a slim pad, typically with no handles. This pad can easily slide in and out from under an adjustable desk to allow for someone working from home to get their steps in while working throughout the day, rather than feeling like they have to be confined to a chair for 8 hours.
Traditional WFH indicates a big office, with plenty of people working in it. You are simply not one of them. Picture a skyscraper in the city on the 33rd floor, but instead, it is actually your spare bedroom. I like to call it a skyscraper turned home office. The days are long gone when that was the only way to WFH. Now, the options are quite literally endless. Because the pandemic taught us most things are able to be taken care of via email or zoom call, you can work from home in almost any position.
Freelance
Freelancing is arguably the most flexible way to work from home. Your office can change, and quite literally be anywhere you want it to be. One week you can be snug in your bed with your lap desk if that is your speed, the next you can work from a park, and the following week a beach. It can truly change whenever you want because you make your own schedule and assign your own work.
Freelancing can mean a multitude of things from blogging, tutoring, graphic design, editing, the list goes on. There are plenty of platforms to get you started on your freelance possibilities while you search for the best way to WFH. As a freelancer, you have the flexibility to make your own schedule. This also means you get to make your own schedule for when you will be in or out of the office, wherever that may be for you.

So, WTF is WFH? It is whatever you want it to be. It can be your typical 9-5, or your own schedule. There are obviously rules and stipulations with almost any position, but for the most part, you can make it your own and truly make working something you enjoy every single day. Whether you grab a walk pad, or freelance across the globe, working from home can be a new adventure waiting for you to grab it.
