Xanga has 40 million users: report

July 21, 2005 by Duncan

An amazing report that blows away previously known figures for the number of blogs in existance, a new report indicates that Xanga.com, already know to be a leading provider of blogs to younger people, has 40 million users, which would easily place it as the most popular blogging service on the planet.

The figure is quoted in a WPXI report on the spread of the “Blogs are Bad” virus into Pittsburg. Of the 40 million users, 91 percent of users are said to be between 13 and 29 years old.

That is an absolutely ridiculous number of bloggers. Im not surprised though. It seems that everyone has something to say, weither it be about love, work, pets, cars and there is always someone willing to read. Even businesses are starting to blog! I myself have been bitten by the bug. While there are rarely comments ( I must not write anything that interesting! ) I enjoy it. Its therapeutic! :)
I found this article on the blog craze.

40 million users? I don’t know about that. I’m a xanga user myself and I really think that this number is a tad too high. It’s closer to around 10 million, IMO. Type in “xanga” on any search engine and you won’t even come close to 40 million.
