Affiliate marketing is one of the best ways for your website or blog to generate some income on the side. For some, it can even be the sole bread-and-butter of the website especially if the domain’s growth and traffic are steady. Whether that’s the case or not for yours, some affiliate marketing plugins are in order for your blog.[Read more…]
By now, you’ve likely heard at least something about affiliate marketing. It is nearly impossible to scroll through social media without seeing an influencer promoting a product, and every business-focused blog loves to talk about the risks and benefits of this type of marketing tactic.
But the real question is: Can your blog actually make money with it? [Read more…]
Many users and casual observers of the social network The Fancy have referred to the site as “Pinterest for Ecommerce” and on Monday the network embraced that name when they rolled out an affiliate network for users. The new system will allow users to share products they find on the website while earning cash for each person who clicks on their links and purchases the product.
At 2% for each sale we don’t expect to see big box affiliate marketers jumping on The Fancy bandwagon but with a net 30 payment (users are paid 30 days after items ship in order to avoid returns) we expect casual users will embrace the system while earning cash.
The system is simple to use, just click on an item to share and you’ll receive a URL with a unique referral code, if someone makes the purchase with your link you earn the cash.
To put the system’s 2% affiliate pricing into perspective, Amazon’s flash sales site MyHabit.com pays 8% while Endless.com affiliate users earn 15%.
The big push in this particular situation is likely new user registrations which recently passed the 1 million mark. [Read more…]
Although affiliate programs are nothing new, launching one for VaultPress could give bloggers an extra incentive to promote the service in order to help lower their monthly backup bill (not to mention generate some extra revenue on the side).
Automattic could choose to pay bloggers (and hosts) a commission based on the first monthly purchase or via a recurring monthly fee (as long as a user remains an active client of course), which could help the service become almost as popular as Akismet in the WordPress universe.
Automattic has not announced a time frame of when they will consider launching an affiliate program, although the company will probably create one after the service exits beta (as the service has yet to provide support for multi-site blogs).
Here goes with another company looking to help Twitter users (and itself) make money from the service.
Affiliate network LinkShare has introduced its #tweetshop service (yes, the service name is a hashtag) which allows users to easily link to affiliate products from a central interface rather than having to visit individual merchants, find and shorten URLs and then manually create the tweet.
LinkShare is keen to point out some “best practice” tips so that the service isn’t abused — you can bet it will be though: [Read more…]

Happy Monday, folks! We’re going to start this week with something that’s probably a little too “under the hood” for most people, but indulge me for a moment. On the Movable Type wiki, developers are discussing a proposal to refactor the variable tags in MT. Sure, it’s not flashy stuff, but if you’re a developer interested in how improvements are made to open source projects, proposals like this are interesting to read.
Now, on to the plugins!
BlogShow — This Flash photo slideshow sports an impressive selection of features, including keyboard navigation and cross-platform support. Created by ITDR, the download available in the plugin directory is a trial version that can be used for up to five galleries.
Yandex OpenID — Andrey Serebryakov continues to make MT more useful to Russian bloggers. This time, he’s added support for logging in using a Yandex account, the largest Russian web portal.
Automatix LightBox — This plugin makes it easier than ever to add Lightbox functionality to your blog posts. Submitted by Mixel Adm, the instructions say just install, upload, and rebuild.
EchoCurrent Affiliate Product Optimizer — EchoCurrent is designed to show your readers affiliate products selected specifically for them. Created by Mike Ruggieri, this plugin will make it easy to put an “APO Zone” anywhere on your blog.
Photo Gallery — Last week, we discussed the changes Byrne Reese was making to his Photo Gallery plugin. Well now he’s got a release out. The old templates have been replaced by the new theme, and there’s even an upgrade script for people still using the 1.0 version of Photo Gallery.
Finally, the CMR Movable Type Styles Blog has a new template set: iNove. Based on a WordPress theme, this comes in both Classic Blog and Professional Blog versions.
What have you done with MT lately? Let us know in the comments.
Performancing Ads has implemented a new affiliate system that will potentially give you a very profitable passive income. [Read more…]
As a blog publisher not located in the US, I sympathize with Darren Rowse (of ProBlogger.net fame). He’s posted an open letter to Amazon, in regards to their affiliate program, called Amazon Associates. Darren’s making a lot of money on Amazon, around $2,000-3,000 monthly, and he estimates that he’s sent around $1,500,000 in sales over the last 5 years. Impressive. [Read more…]
