Mark Zuckerberg Opens Up About IPO, Social Network Movie And Lawsuits [Interview]

July 22, 2010 by James Johnson

zuckerberg-sawyerTonight on ABC’s World News with Diane Sawyer, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg opens up about the most recent happenings surrounding Facebook, specifically the companies future (IPO), the new Facebook Movie (The Social Network) and a recent lawsuit which claims he gave up his share of the company years ago.

Zuckerberg first talks about The Social Network basically downplaying the movies sensationalism of his life surrounding the founding of Facebook:

“I just think people have a lot of fiction…. The real story of Facebook is just that we’ve worked so hard for all this time,” Zuckerberg said in his interview with Sawyer. “I mean, the real story is actually probably pretty boring, right? …We just sat at our computers for six years and coded.”

Zuckerberg also adamantly denies giving up ownership of Facebook, referred to in a lawsuit as a site called “The Face Book.” He says of the lawsuit:

“We did not sign a contract that says that [Ceglia has] any right to ownership over Facebook.”

Zuckerberg also brushed off IPO (initial public offering) status for the company which is valued current at upwards of $20+ billion.

Mark says of the companies future:

“At some point along the path, I think it’ll make sense to have an IPO. But we’re not running the company to do that. We’re running the company to serve more people.”

At 500 million customers strong, I honestly don’t see Zuckerberg needing to rush to form an IPO, he’s already a billionaire and his company is expected to make more than $1 billion in 2010 alone.

Other issues are also covered in the Sawyer interview, in the meantime here are two teaser clips:
