Pinterest Driving More Blog Traffic Than Twitter

Pinterest may still be invite-only and the two-year-old company might only have 11.7 million active registered users but that hasn’t stopped it from surpassing Twitter as a traffic serving platform for millions of blogs.
According to a recent third-party measurement survey by Shareholic the visually based social networking company is currently receiving help from more than 200,000 online publishers who have implemented the company’s “pin it” buttons on their web properties.
When you consider that Yahoo has over 100 million users the company’s share platform shows the huge potential Pinterest has as a social sharing platform.
According to Shareholic in February just under 50% of all web traffic came from Google (48.81%) which was followed by Facebook with 6.38%, Yahoo with 1.61%, StumbleUpon with 1.29% and Bing with 1.21% which was then followed by Pinterest with 1.05%. In the meantime Twitter sent 0.82% of traffic to blogs and other platforms using its services.
Based solely on those numbers it’s possible that Pinterest could end up driving more web traffic than Facebook with far fewer users.
If those numbers aren’t impressive enough it’s believed that in January Pinterest sent more visitors to websites than Google+, YouTube and LinkedIn combined.
Recent studies have shown that the social network is best as sending traffic to magazine websites and blogs, especially sites focusing on food, style and home decor.
Are you surprised by Pinterest and its potential to become the webs biggest traffic driver?
