Translating Blog Herald & other plugins

We’ve just finished installing Angsuman’€™s Translator Plugin Pro which allows automatic translation of all pages in the blog to 8 other languages — German, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Chinese and Korean. It uses either Google & Babelfish translation engines.

We feel that it’s important to us to be able to share our articles here with non-English readers as well. Now, our visitors can also send links to friends or colleagues to an article from our blog displaying the translated pages. You can do this by clicking on the mini flag icons on the top right corner of the blog.

We hope that in the future, we will also be able to provide human-edited translations as well. For the meantime, Angsuman’€™s Translator Plugin Pro is the best we can offer. (We actually recommend this WP plugin as a must to bloggers if they want to expand readership beyond the English literate population.)

On another note, check out the ShopLinc Module For aLinks Plugin. It allows you to manually choose which keywords within your posts will link through to the relevant product pages within your ShopLinc store. Once you’€™ve setup a keyword, the ShopLincs Module will automatically add links from any old and new posts that features that keyword, to your Shoplinc store. Should be useful to blogs which have Online Shops like the one we have.

  • Hi Abe

    Thanks for the plug. I should be able to make a module for your Associate-O-Matic store. Let me have a look at this weekend.

    At the moment the plugin supports out the box Amazon affiliates and Shoplinc.

  • Did you sort out potential performance issues with the translator plugin?

    A few days ago you linked through to this post on plugins to avoid

    Here are the plugins I’d recommend removing or disabling if your server is starting to strain:

    * Angsuman’s Translator Plugin Pro

    Our server is fairly new with enough CPU (quad) to take the load. Will report back here if there are problems along the way. =)

    The “pro” version actually addresses the issue of the free version with caching. “Feature: Data caching in true database tables. Previously the data was being cached in WordPress settings which can consume lots of memory for sites with very high loads and/or having lots of pages.”
