Video: WordPress MU Is Dead. Long Live WordPress 3.0!

May 31, 2010 by Darnell Clayton

It looks as if Automattic (the company behind WordPress for you non-geeks) is preparing to unleash WordPress 3.0 to the masses very soon (this week perhaps?), which will provide not only multi-user support, but also allow “super admins” (see the video below for details) to update plugins across multiple sites.

While the average user may not care about the new changes (especially if they have a personal blog which they maintain and write upon themselves), WordPress 3.0 will make it easier for the average blogger to launch their own blog networks via a single log on account.

It will be interesting to see how other blog platforms like Movabletype and b2evolution react to WordPress’s embrace of multi-site support (as WP’s embrace of multi-site blogging could convince bloggers to finally switch away to WordPress).

Backed by thousands of plugins, Buddypress and a loyal fan base, we might see WordPress emerge in 2010 as the favored CMS of choice for web masters and non-geeks world wide.

Thank god. I’ve spent way too long updating plugins multiple times across multiple properties. WordPress is finally getting serious.

This is what i have been waiting for , it can’t come quick enough for me. Running a blog network is a never ending process of loging in and out to upgrade plugins and publish again and again and again…..
