Twitter will give away $1 million in free ad credits to 10,000 small businesses on Saturday November 24.

The $100 in free credits per business will be offered to the first 10,000 businesses who apply and meet eligibility requirements for the program.

The money from the program can be used to purchase ad credits towards  Promoted Trends and Promoted Accounts on Twitter.

To qualify for the free $100 in advertising the business must be US based, be active on Twitter and be new to Twitter advertising. [Read more…]

Obama PhotoPresident Barack Obama celebrated his victory on Tuesday night by sharing a photograph on his Facebook page. That photo which features the President in a warm embrace with First Lady Michelle Obama has quickly become the “most liked” photograph in the history of Facebook.

Under his photo was the simple caption “four more years.”

The Facebook page Facebook + Journalists revealed the new record at approximately 3 a.m. ET. According to the group:

Despite the singers massive number of sales (18 million albums), his five Grammy nominations and even two Brit Awards he apparently can’t get any respect.

Twitter stats by followersIf you want more Twitter followers you need to send out more tweets. That’s the basic premise behind a new study which examined billions of tweets in order to unlock the secret to obtaining Twitter followers.

Performed by Beevolve the social analytics research including analyzing 36 million user accounts with 28 billion tweets. On average the company was able to examine 794 tweets per person over a three year period.

The study found that people who send between 1 and 1000 tweets have on average 51-100 followers. People who tweets at least 10,000 messages have obtained 1,001 to 5,000 followers and people who send 15,000 tweets or more tend to have between 100,001 and 1 million followers.

There are of course exceptions, such as celebrities who can receive hundreds of thousands, even millions of followers just by sending their first tweet.  [Read more…]

Twitter Online VideoIf Twitter rumors are correct the social media micro-blogging service could soon replace third-party developers TwitVid, yFrog and VodPod while offering its own self-hosted video service. The company is rumored to currently be working on a service that would complement the photo sharing option the company rolled out earlier this year.

First reported by Mike Isaac of AllThingsD he claims:

“Twitter is considering building its own video-hosting technology.”

Isaac further ads that the move is meant to remove third-party video hosts because of compatibility issues:

“While these video services take some of the heavy lifting off Twitter, they also create difficulties.  For one, Twitter has no control over the changes others make to their products.  Yet often, Twitter must deal with the fallout when these changes occur.” [Read more…]

During her concert the hashtag #KCrequests is being used to determine song selection. Clarkson is currently on tour with The Fray.

Clarkson isn’t just accepting requests for her own songs, fans recently convinced her to belt out Florence and the Machine’s “Shake it Out,” Rihanna’s “We Found Love,” and the uber hit “Call Me Maybe” By Carly Rae Jepsen.

Michelle Obama Twitter DNC ChampionMichelle Obama’s well received speech was not only admired by many listeners, it was also a bit hit on Twitter where it earned 28,003 Tweet per minute. Putting her big night into perspective Mitt Romney’s speech garnered just 14,239 tweets per minute and he was in the midst of officially accepting the GOP nomination for President.

While Mitt Romney and his campaign have tried to create a larger voice in social media President Obama had a huge head start. For example Obama has 18.4 million Twitter followers while Romney is still sitting at the 1 million marker.

A recent Pew Internet study has also revealed that Democrats tend to use social media sites more than Republicans and Independents to spread political messages. In fact Republicans in the survey claimed that social media is not really all that important during an election. [Read more…]

Twitter on Wednesday officially opened its certified products platform to the general public. With the program Twitter says customers can now take advantage of programs in three verticals that include Engagement Products, Analytics Products, and Data Reseller Products. According to Twitter the verticals are “based on the needs we see from partners every day.”

In a post on the company’s blog rep Seth Binderngel noted:

“With this program, we’ve identified areas where we see huge demand for innovation on Twitter’s platform.

We’re launching today with 12 partners, and this is just the start. If you have a unique product that fits in at least one of the product verticals, solves a market need and has the potential for a large impact, please get in touch.”  [Read more…]

First experienced at 11:15 a.m. ET the site was down for nearly one hour at which time no postings were captured.

Twitter Search Gets A Boost From Autocomplete, Follower Searches And Related Terms

Twitter Search ImprovementTwitter on Friday rolled out a new smarter search engine that brings with it an autocomplete feature along with the ability to guess whether you are searching for a term or a person. The Twitter search program can also search within the list of people a Twitter user follows.

On Thursday night Twitter teased that its search and discovery feature was about to change “forever” and now its new features have been shown off for both Twitter mobile and Twitter.com users.

The first new feature is the companies’s auto-complete. According to Twitter engineer Frost Li:

“Search autocomplete shows you the most likely terms for your query as you enter it — especially useful if you’re trying to follow the hashtag for an event or you’re looking for a certain Twitter account. You can select your query from the drop-down menu even before you finish typing it.”

The new autocomplete feature will also fix spelling mistakes for more accurate search results.  [Read more…]
