Google’s decline in perceived utility is further emphasized by various factors. In 2021, TikTok briefly overtook Google as the world’s most popular domain, according to web security firm Cloudflare. Additionally, approximately 40 percent of Gen Z users prefer platforms other than Google for discovering information, as highlighted by Prabhakar Raghavan, a senior vice president at Google. This shift in user behavior is reflected in Google’s decreasing share of revenue from search advertising in the United States, projected to fall to 54 percent in 2023 from 67 percent in 2016, as reported by eMarketer.
